Friday 26/12/2014 saw the launch of the 3rd Pokemon tournament in Qatar that was organized by AnimeQTR and proudly sponsored by Hobby Chan. Preparations began beforehand via advertisements through Facebook and Instagram? and the turnout was the biggest yet for such an event.
“This is the first time we’ve been officially sponsored” said Mohammed Almannai, manager of AnimeQTR group, “Hobby Chan has provided us with an amazing opportunity and we are very grateful for it.”
Mr. Almannai went on to explain that the main goal of such an event is to bring people closer together and establish a base for the large community of fans in Qatar.
Registration for the tournament began at 4pm. From that point onwards, the strong positive vibe dominated through the student centre in Qatar foundation, cradling the participants and fans with an incredible energy that could be seen and felt all around.

The beautiful scenery did not end there, as the wonderful variety within the community of participants added a special flavor to the tournament, whereby locals and expats can be seen together united only by their passions and joy for such an event. Nasser AlKuwari (11 years) was very excited to participate in his first ever Pokemon tournament, stating that his passion for the game began when he was only 5 years old, while Carlo (21 years) mentioned he was both happy and nervous to be competing in such a well organized event.
Also in the tournament was 11 year old Elijah who was accompanied by his father. “I learned about the event from Hobby Chan store, and I knew my son has a passion for the game. He [my son] was very thrilled when I told him about the tournament. I thank the organizers for allowing my child’s energy to be utilized positively.”

The tournament was not devoid of the female competitors, which is not a surprise since the organizers follow the wise outlook instilled by our government that aims for all elements in society to become a thriving part of it. Alanoud Alabdullah, a student at Newton International school, was very thrilled to participate in her 2nd Pokemon tournament, and she hopes that the community will keep on expanding and events to keep on growing. Similarly, Qatar Highschool student Alya Abdulrahman was very impressed with the event and very eager to participate in her 3rd Pokemon tournament.

Among the crowd were the participants’ happy parents, who were very thrilled to see their children’s energy be utilized positively and safely, especially that such events do not interfere with studies or social values. “I feel very proud that such events are entirely organized by our youth” one parent added, “and I am very thankful that our country provides infinite support to utilize such positive energy. God bless them all.”

We at Hobby Chan are very proud and honored to have been the official sponsor to AnimeQTR’s well-organized Pokemon event, and this is only the start-point to fulfill one of our goals of establishing a safe, fun and thriving environment for the growing community of fans and Otakus in the region.

As the event reached its end point, it was time to crown the top 3 winners:

The prizes included exclusive Pokemon products that were presented by Hobby Chan, and all the participants received certificates of appreciation offered by AnimeQTR group and Hobby Chan.

In reality, everyone was a winner. To transcend creed and race, and to bring a group of similar-minded folks in a safe environment where new friendships and bonds are formed is the main goal of the organizers. Our love for our passions is our strongest bond.
We at Hobby Chan would like to thank all participants and hope everyone had a wonderful experience filled with positivity and excitement, and we assure you that this is only the beginning of a lifelong partnership of wonderful events. Hobby Chan is not simply the first anime store in Qatar; it’s the gateway for an entire community of hobby enthusiasts and Otakus.
The 3rd Pokemon tournament, organized by AnimeQTR group and proudly sponsored by Hobby Chan, was indeed a milestone achievement in establishing a base for all the hobby fans and Otakus. We would like to Thank AnimeQTR for organizing such events and we hope we continue to work together in future.
